I made up this open house invitation for one of my school districts in Minnesota when they opened their PAES lab last fall, 2010. They invited parents, faculty, and even invited their local community newspaper to their open house. The newspaper sent a reporter, and their district was written up in their local newspaper touting their PAES program. The article also explained how PAES saved their school district money by offering this service in-house. Attached is the open house invitation, and the newspaper article.

One of my Minnesota teachers made this PAES Scheduling Helper, and also expanded the weekly planning form from the classroom manual to fit more students. The scheduling helper lists all PAES jobs at a glance and includes approximate minutes each job will take, as well as the prerequisites that are reccomended from the manuals (times are inflated slightly from the manual to allow for set up and clean up) . She really likes using these, so I thought I would post them here for others to use if they like.

MP1-3 Candleholder project. I found these great little glass candle holders that will fit the metal holder the students make in this project. I get them at Walmart and also pick up votive candles. When the student finishes the project, they get a glass holder and candle. This makes the candle holder a safe item for the student's use.

PA1-6 activities: The pipe assembly materials can be nicely organized by putting similar fittings into small cardboard boxes in the plastic storage tub. This makes it a little easier to find the different fittings and it emulates the manner in which a professional would organize fittings.

Time Cards: In the back of the work record crate, I keep calculators and several folders named "Time Card Helpers". Inside the folder is an example time card and a visual of a clock showing 1/4 hours and decimal equivalants. This helps the students maintain independence while learning how to keep and total their time sheets.

These are the checks I use for payroll. I print them on colored paper and sign each check.

I like to use a standard folder with 3-hole fasteners to hold the data collection sheets, the behavior points sheet and the adaptation sheets. This keeps data collection in one place. I put tabs on the separate work areas.
I copy my version of the daily points record back-to-back and bind them into the data collection book and include a few sheets for adaptation notes. We then transfer the weekly total points into a summary spreadsheet for each student that can be printed out for IEP meetings.

Multiple labs: I run 3 labs/day. I have purchased colored folders with medical-style fasteners for the work records so each lab is a different color and easy to access out of the job crate. This simplifies planning because I'm not mixing up the different labs.

One of my PAES labs made up this P.T.O. (paid time off) policy for his lab. It has helped his students take PAES serious as a workplace, and they have become more conscientious about their attendance in PAES since he introduced the policy.
